Christantus Uche Ignites Straightforward Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Even though embarking on their first-ever European adventure, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Without star figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a comfortable win that all but guarantees them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.
Another three points in their next fixture against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to secure straight passage to the knockout stages, particularly following a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Grasp the Moment
This match offered a chance for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second game in succession.
A Shelbourne team that had concluded their domestic season were no match against a mostly second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg problems.
Control Established from the Outset
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, fizzing a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee dismissed the protests.
The formerArsenal man did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had struck the post.
Shelbourne were hanging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for two agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The contest was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest key players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also missed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the traveling side.
