Peacemaker Season 2 Finale to Resolve Significant Fan Complaint, James Gunn Reveals
While the reception for Peacemaker the latest season has been mostly favorable, with viewers and reviewers praising the performances and plot—even if the big twist in the seventh installment wasn't exactly a surprise—a particular criticism has intensified as the season continues: dwindling episode runtimes.
In recent weeks, audience members have expressed disappointment over the noticeably shorter runtimes this season, and it's true, the episodes have been getting shorter and shorter. Episode 7, called “Like a Keith in the Night,” lasted only 28 minutes (excluding the summary, title sequence, and end credits), marking the briefest installment yet.
Fans will be pleased to learn the upcoming finale is nearly an hour in length.
Series creator and DC Universe head Gunn wrote via social media, responding to a viewer's concern.
Although this is encouraging, it remains unclear what portion of the 57 minutes will be brand-new content, free from intro and outro segments, or recaps of previous events. However, even if the finale includes all the previously mentioned non-essential content, that would still allow for roughly three-quarters of an hour for the finale, which is a big upgrade following the previous installment.
The director earlier hinted that the finale would not only wrap up Peacemaker but also provide clues towards the direction the broader DC Universe as a whole will be heading and act as a kind of precursor for the next Superman movie. Considering the cameo of the actor's portrayal of Lex Luthor from episode 6, many are anticipating a exciting guest appearance to cap off the show.
The show's season conclusion, the eighth episode, is called "The Full Nelson," and we'll just have to wait to find out if viewer theories are confirmed.
