PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
