The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Frustration About Sizing Modifications

Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.

The popular resale platform has revised its size classifications for women's and children's garments but did not contact all users about the change.

Social Media Reaction

Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification than originally posted because of the remapping.

Vinted explained the new system was more in line with similar services.

They have suggested members to check their listings and update the measurements by hand when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.

Size Classification Modifications

Before the change, the sizing featured one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.

The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.

With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.

User Accounts

A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.

A different member, from Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.

"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she said.

Manual Updates

A different user, located in England, stated she felt frustrated because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".

"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she stated.

Service Background

The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.

It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
